we're too young to run in circles [2019]
There’s no romance without sex. It’s an unquestioned principle. It’s possible to have sex without being in love, but a romantic relationship without intercourse? A concept many people are unable to grasp. Something must be missing. Isn’t sex the ultimate way of being intimate with each other? Asexuals surely live an isolated and sad life.
i just fear
you’ll realise you
don’t like men sexually
you don’t want to be
sexual with any men
and the lack of that
will distance
you from me
because i do
have that desire
for you
I remember how I told a friend last year: “Oh god, I hope I’m not polyamorous and asexual, that would suck.” But what if I am? Or what if I’m only into women when it comes to sex? The one thing I know for sure is that there’s a need I can no longer suppress: I want to be close to people, both emotionally and physically.
Will it, in the end, come to the question “freedom or relationship”? Is it worth sacrificing your relationship for an experiment? And – am I afraid of losing him and our future together or just scared of ending up alone, having given up everything for an idea that only sounded good in theory?
