liminoid [2020 – 2021]
The ethnologist Victor Turner describes the liminoid as a burst out of the shackles of society. My project is about the search for an archaical state, detached from the hegemonic social order. Desire and gender should become secondary, suspending existing power dynamics.
The long-exposures allow the subjects to leave their body in an performative act. It's an attempt to escape our embodiment and reach a utopian liminality that can't exist in reality but apparently did: the polaroid photograph confirms its past existence.
